OLDER PERSON MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID
The Older Person Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants who work with, care for or support adults aged 65+ how to provide initial support to someone who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves. Each year 1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental illness. Many people are not knowledgeable or confident to offer assistance. Physical first aid is accepted and widespread in our community, however most do not cover mental health problems. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches people the skills to help someone who they're concerned about.
The 12-hour Older Person Mental Health First Aid course teaches any adult (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to an older adult (65+) who is experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. Learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in older adults, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.
